BEHIND THE LENS

My background is very unique in that my college degree has nothing to do with photography.  It is a bachelor of MUSIC EDUCATION.  But its the education part that makes the difference to you.  There are tons of photographers that can do fantastic work, but not that many can really tell you how to do it yourself.  Many that can feel its not in their best interest to share their knowledge. 

 

As far as how much I might know about photography, look at my work and you be the judge.  Is it of a quality that you believe you can learn something from me?

 

My photographic education came in much the same way that yours will come.  I am largely self taught.  Yes I have taken a few classes here and there, and yes I attend workshops and seminars when I get the chance, but the real education comes from two ways. 

 

First you have to be willing to study.  That means reading books, scouring websites and blogs, viewing images and artwork, and talking to others.  But most of all the real education comes from making images..  You will find you learn from your mistakes and your failures.  But the real joy is in the journey of learning.
