Frequently Asked Questions

Who will I teach?

My teaching methods are set up to be more self driven study.  Much like a college course, my job is to guide you not read to you.  I never saw much reason to waste your time and money covering things you can easily get on your own.  The focus should be on things you find confusing, difficult to understand, or things that are difficult to explain in text format. To take make this an effective learning experience, it takes some maturity so I have set an age requirement of 21 and over.  Other than that, everyone is welcome.

Will you cater the instruction to the types of photography I enjoy?

Of course.  We all have challenges that we find we enjoy more than others.  Some like to take pictures of flowers, and some like landscapes.  We are all different and even two people with the same equipment can look at the same thing and come up with two completely different images.  It's why its called personal expression.

Do you teach Photoshop and Lightroom?

Well the answer is yes to a point.  Photoshop in particularly is a very deep and complicated program, but many of its features are quite natural for a photographer.  Those basics I am happy to teach, and they will likely make much more sense to you once you understand the technical side of the art of photography.  These I am happy to help you through, as you grow as a photographer.

However people like graphic designers spend years learning tricks that can be done to manipulate images in ways most folks would never consider.  I am not a graphic designer, and though I can appreciate what they do, its not something that ever particularly interested me.  If you wish to explore these capabilities in Photoshop, I am not the right person for you.

Lightroom is an image management software that also can be somewhat complicated, but I have the skills to get you started.  Now if you call me and ask me what some obscure function is and what it does, I am probably going to have to look it up just like you will.  I am however more than able to teach most people the software enough that they can be effective for most needs.

Do you teach private lessons?

Sure, its the most common method.  Though I would teach a class, with the complications of modern life commiting a block of time for most in todays busy world would be difficult.  With one on one instruction, only two schedules must match.  The rate is $40 and hour and they are held at a place that best suits the subject matter.  If you like to take pictures of flowers, we meet where there are some flowers with which to work.  Just email to schedule.

Do you sell prints?

I sure do.  You can see images for sale at www.artfromcameras.com
